Osier Junction – Designing a Sustainable Community is an urban regeneration project that reimagines a disused industrial site in Wolverhampton into a vibrant, diverse and inclusive neighborhood. Inspired by the site’s industrial heritage and ecological potential, the master plan integrates high-density, people-focused housing with community-driven spaces, green infrastructure, and circular economy principles. Key features include shared green spaces, a repair café, and community-led retail, fostering social connection, economic resilience, and biodiversity. With a focus on mixed-use spaces, pedestrian-friendly design, and sustainable living, Osier Junction aims to create a thriving, connected neighborhood that empowers its residents and enhances urban well-being while promoting long-term sustainability.
Drawing inspiration from award-winning developments like Goldsmith Street by Mikhail Riches and Homes Road by Peter Barber, the project features thoughtfully designed low-rise mixed-use housing. Each apartment benefits from an individual ground floor entrance, effectively minimizing the common drawbacks associated with high-density housing. The construction utilizes high-performance prefabricated SIPs panels, ensuring both efficient construction and excellent environmental performance.
The masterplan seamlessly integrates with the city’s existing infrastructure, connecting to canal cycle routes and establishing vital green corridors for wildlife. At its heart, a community building serves as a hub for various activities, including fitness facilities, social gatherings, educational programs, childcare services, and community support initiatives. The development also features carefully planned outdoor spaces, including tranquil reflection gardens and community allotments, fostering a strong connection to nature and promoting sustainable living practices.
